RF & Electronics Engineer

The Opportunity
Join a leading engineering firm in Adelaide that delivers cutting‑edge communications and electronics solutions. You will work on challenging RF, electronics, communications, and digital system projects—from concept through to design, testing, and field implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, simulate, prototype, implement, debug and test RF, electronic and electrical systems.
- Develop and support software‑defined‑radio (SDR) receiver and transmitter platforms.
- Work with active and passive antenna arrays covering HF, VHF and UHF bands.
- Contribute to strategic and tactical HF system projects.
- Support digital signal processing (DSP) and FPGA‑based development.
- Perform RF‑chain analysis, link‑budget calculations and overall system performance assessments.
- Create schematics and PCB layouts using Altium Designer or comparable tools.
- Conduct hardware testing and troubleshooting with VNAs, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes and signal generators.
- Prepare technical specifications, documentation, design reviews and quality‑assurance artefacts.
- Identify and introduce new technologies that add value.
- Collaborate closely with project and engineering teams to deliver results.
- Provide clear updates on progress, risks and technical issues.
- Undertake field work and travel within Australia or overseas as required.
About You
You are a hands‑on RF and electronics engineer with a proven record of delivering hardware solutions.
- Strong RF and electronics background with practical hardware design experience.
- Proficiency in PCB design, schematic capture and layout (Altium Designer or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of RF concepts, specifications and RF‑chain analysis.
- Familiarity with digital signal processing principles.
- Experience with MATLAB, Python and/or VHDL.
- Hands‑on skills in component handling, PCB assembly and soldering.
- Comfort using RF and electronics test equipment.
- Excellent problem‑solving, analytical and documentation abilities.
- Clear technical communication; able to work independently and as part of a team.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant degree or qualification in Electrical, Electronics or Communications Engineering, plus industry experience.
- Australian citizenship (essential).
- Willingness and eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance.
- Based in Adelaide/South Australia or willing to relocate.
- Readiness to undertake field work and travel when required.
- Hands‑on experience with electrical, electronic and RF systems.
- Ability to work across multidisciplinary interfaces (mechanical, electrical, etc.).
- Strong communication, organisational and documentation skills.
Desirable Experience (Not Required)
- Existing Australian Government security clearance.
- FPGA firmware development on Xilinx/Kintex platforms.
- Use of SPICE, HFSS or similar circuit/RF simulation tools.
- Knowledge of DSP algorithms.
- 3D CAD modelling experience.
- Experience in both Windows and Linux development environments.
- Understanding of low‑voltage electrical power systems.
